School of Spiritual Science, The Medical Section UK
The Medical Section is one of 11 specialist sections belonging to the School of Spiritual Science which is at the heart of the Anthroposophical Society.
The School of Spiritual Science aims to assist members in their striving for spiritual development and inner freedom and to provide a forum and a focus for spiritual research. It is also concerned with how the results of this spiritual research can be put to practical use in the various fields of cultural endeavour. With this in mind, the school is divided into sections - Education, Medicine, Social Science, etc. There is also a General Section, to which all members of the School belong, and which concerns itself with the fundamental questions of human existence that all human beings share, irrespective of country, race or religion.
The Medical Section in the U K works in close collaboration with the international Medical Section at the Goetheanum in Switzerland.
In Britain its tasks involve coordinating and supporting the development of Anthroposophic Medicine, Curative Education and Social Therapy, organising training and continued training courses and initiating and supporting research. Work is also done in the legal field to promote free choice of treatment and diversity of scientific method.
The Section works at three levels:
• Research, development and training in relevant spheres of professional work
• Coordination of the Section’s various activities and modes of work, and the professional fields it oversees
• Nurturing of both interdisciplinary collaboration and professional contacts with representatives of the specialist fields in academic settings, in the cultural life, in politics and in the social sphere. more
